The second pharaoh depicted by the palettes and maceheads found by Quibell is Narmer. There are two pieces which depict this pharaoh: the Narmer Palette and the Narmer Macehead
The Narmer Palette is a piece of dark green slate and is believed to be the earliest historical record from Egypt. The palette shows the pharaoh wearing the white crown of upper Egypt (hedjet) on one side and the red crown of lower Egypt (deshret) on the other. This implies he was king of the two lands (later pharaohs would be depicted wearing a double crown), unlike his predecessor 'Scorpion'.
The depiction on what is considered to be the front of the palette is the pharaoh wearing the white crown of upper Egypt, standing, and smiting a prisoner with an upraised mace. This particular scene was to become an 'icon of majesty' which appears in many scenes of Egyption history right through to Roman times.
Under construction.
